H. Upmann Cigars The H. Upmann brand began in Cuba in 1844 when a German banker, Herman Upmann, began offering cigars to his best customers as a promotion.  Today, they are one of the most recognizable brands in the world.  The Dominican version here first became available in the U.S. beginning in 1975.  Originally developed with a Cameroon wrapper and Dominican filler and binder, today the cigar is wrapped in Indonesian leaf.
